Requirements for an Academic Letter:
- Students must meet both a cumulative grade point average requirement and earn points for participating in extra-curricular academic activities or approved academic competitions.
- Students must earn 12 points to receive an academic letter.
- A maximum of 5 points can be earned in any event for an academic year.
- Points may be accumulated from year to year.
- All points must be earned at LFO.
- Students who have received an academic letter and continue to
accumulate points will receive a bar for every 6 points they accumulate
beyond the original 12.
Points will be awarded as follows:
- Participation in any intermural academic event or competition
(student must be representing LFO in direct competition with another
school).
- Participating on an academic team that receives an award.
- Winning a state office (or higher) of an organization or club that is affiliated with a club at LFO.
- Participating in the Governor's Honors Program at the county level.
- Being selected into an Academic Honor Club (National Honor Society, Beta Club, Spanish Honor Society, etc.).
- Receiving an award or honorable mention in the LFO math/science fair AND entering it into a region competition.
- Receiving an award in the regional science/engineer fair or social science fair.
- Receiving a leadership award or special recognition from an outside agency.
- Attending an academic program.*
- Designation by a club that received an award or special
recognition from an outside agency (only one club member is eligible for
this point).
- Taking an SAT Subject Test.
- Teacher recommendation and participation in the Georgia Math League, AMC, etc.
- Scoring a 3 on an AP test.
- 2 points will be awarded for being selected STAR student at LFO.
- 2 points will be awarded for participating in an Academic competition team (debate, literary, etc.)
- 2 points will be awarded for receiving an individual award in any intermural competition (an award is defined as 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place at the completion of the event)
- 2 points will be awarded for participating in Governor's Honors at the state level.
- 2 points will be awarded for recognition (award) in faculty
approved academic contest (Young Georgia Author's, VFW contest, etc.)
- 2 points will be awarded for participating in a state competition (FBLA, HOSA, DECA, FFA, SkillsUSA, etc.)
- 2 points will be awarded for scoring 1000+ on the SAT (verbal and math) or a 22+ on the ACT.
- 2 points will be awarded for taking and passing 6 AP/Honors courses and for scoring a 4 or higher on an AP test.
- Other extra-curricular academic activity approved by the Academic Board.
