2019 Academic Decathlon Team
2019 Winning Team

Catoosa County's Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School, coached by Lisa Beck, Ian Beck and Jessica Chandler, once again captured the PAGE Georgia Academic Decathlon (GAD) State Championship. This year marks the high school's ninth championship, overcoming Clarke County's Cedar Shoals High School for the most championship team wins since 1993, when PAGE became the state sponsor. The team scored the highest points overall in Division I and II and was presented the Howard Stroud Championship Trophy.

The two-day academic competition for their 10th state win will be Feb. 21-22, 2019, in Gwinnett County. Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe is a Division II, or small-school (based on school population size) participant, and will work to be submitted as the Georgia representative to the annual U.S. Academic Decathlon (USAD) National Competition, April 29 - May 2, 2020, in Anchorage, AL.

Nine individuals make up a team, three "A" students, three "B" students, and three "C" students. All students study and test in ten events: Art, Music, Language and Literature, Mathematics, Social Science, Science, Economics, Prepared and Extemporaneous Speaking, Personal Interview, and Essay. The curricular theme for the 2019-2020 year is "In Sickness and in Health:  An Exploration of Illness and Wellness."
